起こりうる可能性の中から１つのことを取り上げて、それが起きた時に必要な対応を述べる表現。「とき」「たら」と似ている表現。

「とき」「たら」「場合」は似た表現ですが、「場合」には以下のような特徴があります。

*「場合」は実際に起きたことには使えない
You can't use "Baai" for something that actually happened.
（ex）〇3年前地震が起きたとき私は10歳でした。
×3年前地震が起きた場合私は10歳でした。
*「場合」は絶対に起きないことに関しては使えない。
You can't use "Baai" for something that will never happen.
（ex）〇私が鳥だったら空を飛びたいです。
×私が鳥の場合は空を飛びたいです。
*よくないことに使うことが多い。

*［辞書形］場合と［た形］場合の違いは「とき」と同じ。
